GENERAL INFORMATION

Continuing Education Credit

  • Physicians

City of Hope National Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council of Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. As an organization accredited for continuing education, City of Hope National Medical Center designates this CME activity as meeting the criteria for 20.6 hours of Category I of the Physician's Recognition Award. Physicians should claim only those hours of credit that are actually spent at the educational activity.

Faculty disclosure: Current guidelines state that participants in CME activities should be aware of any affiliation of financial interest that could affect the speaker's presentation(s). The speakers have completed a financial disclosure form, and those potential conflicts will be listed in the syllabus.

Note: For California physicians, this course meets the mandatory continuing education requirements of AB487 (Oct 5, 2001) for education in pain management and treatment of terminally ill and dying patients.

  • Registered Nurses

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 13380, for 20.6 hours of continuing education. No partial credit will be given, must attend all three days to receive 20.6 contact hours.

  • Social Workers

This course meets the qualification for 20.6 hours of continuing education credit for MFCCs and/or LCSWs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. (Provider #PCE2401) No partial credit will be given, must attend all three days to receive 20.6 contact hours.

Eligibility Requirements

  • An interest in improving end-of-life care within the cancer center.
  • A full or part-time position in the cancer center.
  • Two letters of institutional support.
  • Two person team made up of either two from tier I or one from tier I and one from tier II.
    • Tier I = Administrator, physician, registered nurse, social worker.
    • Tier II = Psychologist, pharmacist, rehabilitation professional, clergy.
  • One team per institution

Expectations of Applicants Selected to Participate in the Course

  • Commitment to improving end-of-life care in the cancer center.
  • Attend course all three days.
  • Participate as a two person team in the development of pre-course institutional goals and immediate, six month, twelve month, and eighteen month post-course evaluation.
